Deset mečbolů měl k dispozici Zdeněk Kolář, přesto se s turnajem v Kigali loučí už v osmifinále. S Joelem Schwärzlerem měl ve dvousetminutové bitvě navrch, vedl 1:0 na sety, jenže následně nezvládl dvě zkrácené hry a padl po setech 6:4, 6:7, 6:7. Ve třetí sadě měl dokonce několik šancí na ukončení, za stavu 6:5 dokonce tři mečboly v řadě, ve většině případů se ale vyházel, a musí tak kousat krutou porážku.
